So, the above clip may or may not result from the fact that I refuse to give up my VCR thanks to my ownership of 1 Pee-Wee’s Playhouse Christmas Special VHS tape (along with the Jem and Max Headroom pilots, thank you very much). Like seriously, Grace Jones dropping by the playhouse for a song? It came from WTF indeed. Anyway here are some “Alt” holiday tracks, in case you’re overdosing on the sweet stuff.
Who could forget The Raveonettes‘ ode to (leather clad) joy? 20 bucks says they wearing black turtlenecks when they recorded this… and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
Parenthetical Girls are set to tour with Los Campesinos in January 2012 – but before doing that, they’re out to save Christmas with a name-your-price EP!
Now that’s what I call playing the exchange rate game: apparently it costs the same to rent a film studio in Stockholm as it does to commandeer a helicopter in Switzerland and wander around the Alps with video cameras for a day. Lucky for all of us, Serenades chose the latter. Here is a holiday tinged single off their forthcoming Come Home EP. Amazing!
Woods cover Vince Guaraldi‘s “Christmas Time is Here” (that’s the Charlie Brown Christmas Theme for all y’all out there). Woods just completed a North American tour last night, so let’s hope they’re getting some much needed rest!
