So Relativity Media‘s latest production Machine Gun Preacher debuted this weekend. It’s based on a true story of an ex-biker gang member turned Reverend who traveled to the Southern Sudan on a mission. Once there he witnessed first hand the brutality of natives’ daily existence – the recruitment of youth to work as child soldiers in particular – and set out to found an orphanage. He ended up taking the matter into his own hands and started a rescue operation, and as of today has saved over 1000 children. The foundation is called Angels of East Africa. Plus, it stars Gerard Butler, so something for the whole family. Virgin Mobile is teaming up with the cause to donate 4 water wells to Sam Childers’ foundation. Pledge to spread the word through Twitter and Facebook or share the trailer by October 2nd and your name will be engraved on one of those fresh water wells. Cool, right?
As you might imagine the official soundtrack for Machine Gun Preacher is pretty kick ass. Chris Cornell wrote and performed “Keeper” for the film and the video premiered today. Powerful stuff to say the least. He’ll be appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on October 12th to perform the track. If you donate to the foundation between now and October 7th you’ll be entered to win a signed Gibson Les Paul Jr guitar, and 5 semi finalists will get autographed copies of the soundtrack. Chris is gearing up for the next leg of his acoustic Songbook tour. He’ll be hitting the road starting November 21st – but not before signing the guitar and CDs of course!
